Richard Smart holds a degree in Agriculture from the University of Sydney and a Phd. from Cornell University. He is considered as one of the leading personalities in modern viticulture and a pioneer in “canopy management”.

Doctor Smart is the author of numerous articles on modern viticulture as well as the canopy management book “Sunlight into Wine”, which has become a point of reference for growers, students and viticulturists around the globe. Richard consults for numerous wineries in Penedés, La Mancha, Australia, Chile, California and New Zealand, amongst other wine regions.
